The  Lakes and Ponds - Educational Videos

On January 29th, 2024, Dr. Ernesto Lasso de la Vega’s, from the Lee County Hyacinth Control District in Fort Myers, presented the results of the analysis of water samples taken from the Spanish Wells retention ponds. Over 100 residents attended as he discussed some of the challenges and methods of improving the condition of these ponds. Many thanks to the Citizen Scientists who collected the samples.   The following video is his full presentation. The video to the left is his full presentation.

On Monday March 11, 2024 Mary Helen Reuter, Curator of Education & Visitor Experience at the Naples Botanical Garden, provided a presentation entitled “Improving the health and function of our stormwater ponds using littoral and native plants.”  Littoral plantings have proven to have a very positive effect on the aesthetics of lakes, the quality of the water and an improvement to the life of lakes.

On Monday April 8, 2024, we discovered the creative approach taken by The Fairwinds Community in Bonita Springs to improve the health and functioning of their lake in this informative Community Pond Education presentation by Dr. Ben Hershendon, Fairwinds HOA President and Dr. James Douglass, FGCU Water School.
